Sicilian Coast

The coast of Sicily is as diverse as its geography. It has beaches that are sandy as well as some composed of small pebbles. There are even white cliffs which people sunbathe on as well. Near Palermo is Mondello beach which is one of the sandy beaches. You can generally have this amazing beach to yourself in the low tourist months and still explore the wonderful region around Palermo. Another soft sandy beach is Castellammare del Golfo which is one of the most beautiful spots in all of Sicily. There you can find a very sophisticated restaurant called Ristorante del Golfo which serves an amazing moussel soup and special silician dishes. Is is also rated as the best Silician restaurant as you can see in Tripadvisor. This is due to the fact that it is surrounded by the Lo Zingalo Nature reserve, a seemingly endless park filled with remote coves and beaches completely untouched by tourists.

If you are in the wine region of Marsala, be sure to check out the saline lagoons in between there and Trapani. These flats have been supplying salt to various empires for over 2000 years and are a stunning site to see. From here, off the coast, are the mythical Egadi Islands which have some of the best beachfronts in Sicily. These are sparsely populated and have been untouched by time, boasting some of the most beautifully clear deep blue waters in the region. There are also amazing sea caves for the more adventurous types to scuba dive and snorkel.

The southern coast of Sicily is highlighted by the white chalk cliffs called the Scala dei Turchi near Agrigento. This may be the most unique and stunning beaches in Sicily. They are natural white chalk stairs descending into the azure blue waters and are almost natural lounge chairs for you to just lounge and melt into the surroundings. The north has some of the more resort towns, such as Taormina, and the beautiful pebbly beaches. Around this region are some quaint fishing villages which are great places for those looking for a more secluded spot to spend their vacation. No matter where you go in Sicily you will find a pristine beach to soak up the warm Mediterranean sun.
